Budget friendly dog breeds - Price of Indian Spitz and Pomeranian

Dogs are man’s best friends. They are our little bundle of joy that can add a lot of meaning to our otherwise routine lives. And yet we know having a loving pet is one of the many things we want in our lives.

We understand the hustle of having everything in life that you desire, which is why we have put together a short list of budget-friendly dogs that you can aspire to have.

Don't go by the price

There is no dog breed that is low in cost in general; some breeds are smaller in size and naturally eat less and then there are some breeds that do not require a lot of grooming, which leads to reduced spending on grooming. All of these could mean marginal to a little bit more than marginal when it comes to money one can save. It all depends on where else the money maybe spent; i.e. the owner that has a breed that requires little grooming might spend a lot on food – organic, ordered-in and of course, toys, etc. You get the point.

Selecting a breed of dog in general should not be a matter of affordability. It should be a matter of lifestyle, one’s experience levels, and the needs of the self and family.

Nevertheless, since we received a couple of emails asking us if we can touch on this subject a little, we are publishing a series of posts sharing some of our thoughts.

Please keep in mind again that it should not come down to how expensive the dog is when you decide on a breed. Also, please always consider adopting a dog – there are so many dogs in shelters that look for a home. By publishing articles on how much a dog costs from what we hear, we are in no way recommending you buy a dog rather than adopt one.

So here is our first take on some of the breeds that we have been hearing has an initial cost of less than 10K INR.

Indian Spitz

Indian Spitz is one of the lowest costing dog breeds you can get in India. The reason it is one of the cheapest dog breeds is that these are bred in India - sounds logical, given the name of the breed.

  • They do well as apartment dogs. It is because this is a highly intelligent species, which is adaptable and can learn to live in a small house.

Poms are the smallest of the Spitz breeds. They have a foxy-looking face and are among the most popular dog breeds in India.
