Why can't you stop falling in love with Goldies!

Golden Retrievers are originally from Scotland (Tomich, to be precise). They are a mix of two breeds - a Tweed water spaniel and a wavy-coated retriever. Both of these breeds are extinct now. The first pair of these dogs had names Belle (the Spaniel) and Nous (the Retriever).

We noted down the top 3 reasons that you can't overlook. By the end of this article, you will be in love with Goldies! We are keeping aside the obvious cuteness they reflect, thick fur coating and floppy ears make them a very attractive choice for pet owners.

Kind - therapy dogs

When it comes to therapy, Goldies are the real deal. Golden retrievers are often employed to help people deal with stress and anxiety. They help humans stay calm. This is because they have immense treasures of love and empathy, almost unconditional.

They are the real gifts from God. They are naturally calm and kind, which makes them good not only for adults but also for kids. It is really very rare to see a Golden Retriever, who is angry!

Goldies are loving and very eager to please others. Their soft cute smiles can almost make you forget all worries.

Always young at heart

We all know that energetic and exorbitant puppy behavior. That never goes away. Golden retrievers mature very slowly and their natural behavior is to be playful, and sometimes even silly.

They are quite low-key when it comes to training. It is always easy to train a Goldie! This is because they are highly intelligent breeds and love treats. With love and conditioning, they are easy to train.

They are great swimmers. The fun fact about Goldies is that they have webbed toes - that's right, the toes on their paws are joined together by thin webs of skin. These webbed paws don't have a lot of everyday use, but they can be very useful in water. Goldies were originally bred for fetching games both on land and in water, which explains this trait.

Eat, Love (& Eat?)

Gold Retrievers are crafty with their mouth. They have ‘soft’ mouths enough to pick up and hold games like ducks. Their mouth is so soft that they can even carry a raw egg in their mouth, without cracking the shell.

Goldies love to eat and are known for their insatiable appetites. They will eat anything, such as a dinner bowl, paper, toys, etc, and tend to overeat. Mindful owners know to limit treats and measure food for their Goldies, to ensure they only feed during mealtimes and do not overindulge. Although they are greedy by nature and tend to need a lot of calories to stay active, their breed nature also makes them voracious eaters, it's not their fault!

Around 60-70% of Golden Retrievers are overweight. They love playing, but obviously, they love eating more. To give a balanced and healthy diet to your Goldies, pet owners can also consider feeding them some edible fruits, besides the regular diet. Not all fruits are edible for dogs, some can even be poisonous, so do your research before feeding them. Some of the fruits that are edible for Goldies include Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries, apples, and Cantaloupe.
