The most common color of this breed is brown or reddish brown with a clear black mask. The commonly-known Kombai is understood to be originating from Cumbam–Uthamapalayam in Tamil Nadu.

Personality

Kombais are bold, courageous, and aloof to strangers. Given these were bred to guard forts, places and large properties, they have a temperament that is unyielding and possess a die-hard attitude. Our research shows that first-hand accounts describe even puppies have the tenacity that are comparable to that of Belgian Malinois. compared to the Rajapalayam breed of dogs that are used for protecting large farm lands and that are native to the same geographical area where Kombais originate from, Kombais are usually used to protect large buildings, like forts, cortyards and as royal bodyguards. Known for their fierceness at the call of duty, Kombais are known to giving their life to fulfill their responsibilities. Needless to say these dogs are very territorial and are aggressive towards strangers of all kinds.

Meant to protect palaces and bungalows - large properties to run around and keep them busy, Kombais are not meant for apartment dwellings in urban environments.

Not suitable for first time owners!

Health

Understandably, like all native dogs, the Kombai dog is very healthy, at least from the researches we performed on information available online. Given Kombais orginate from hot and humid weather conditions of the trophical Tamil Nadu, it is understandable that Kombais can tolerate hot and humid conditions, but should not be considered where the weather conditions can swing between extreme cold to extreme hot, and definitely not suitable for places that have extreme cold weather, like hill stations where it can even snow at times. Supposedly, they should do well with little need for medical care.

Given the lack of first-hand accounts, it is hard to describe Kombai's health facts. If you own one or know of someone who owns one, please let us know and we will love to feature the majestic breed here, of course with rewards! Contact us at AllDogs.in
